GROWING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF WITH MEDITATION
Authenticity is living as your real self. Most humans consider
themselves good people, living in ways they believe are true to who
they are. Yet from the moment we are born, we receive layers of
training—both purposeful and incidental—from our families, the people
around us, and the culture we live in. Over time, many of us find
ourselves quietly asking, “Who am I, really?”
Meditation calms the mind and creates space for our quieter, deeper
inner knowing to speak—through thoughts, sensations, and images. It
helps settle inner turmoil and soften internal contradictions. For
thousands of years, calming the mind to optimize the mind–body
connection has been used not only for healing, but also as a gateway
into the deeper mysteries of life—as a spiritual practice. The
benefits to both body and thought processes have been documented
across centuries, and are now increasingly supported by modern science
and medical research.
Meditation is a technique—a tool—that allows us to tap into a
Universal Stillness beyond our single, small mind. I taught my first
meditation course in 1985 and have typically offered classes every
year since, up through 2026. I realize now that it is time to begin
again. I “missed out” in 2025 due to cancer, and meditation became a
vital support as I moved through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
It helped me remain grounded, confident in my healing, and trusting in
the future of this life.
Meditation can also help you future-pace—to sense and align with what
is becoming possible. The key to making things happen is not waiting
for the perfect moment; it is starting with what you have, where you
are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but
momentum builds through small, consistent action. Progress comes from
showing up—not perfectly, but persistently.
Action creates clarity. Over time, those small steps forward add up to
something real.
You do not need to be fearless to grow into your authentic self—you
only need to be willing. Willing to try. Willing to learn. Willing to
believe that you are capable of more than you currently know. The path
may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is
that you keep going, keep learning, and keep trusting in the version
of yourself you are becoming.
